ROUTE 66 |
|||
|
|||
Oklahoma has more miles of original Route 66 road left than any other Route 66 state. Of the original 2,400 miles of Route 66 approximately 85% is still drivable. In Oklahoma almost all of Route 66 remains intact. In Oklahoma you can drive almost the entire length of Route 66 without getting on an interstate freeway. Some sections in Oklahoma are still marked as Highway 66. These are west of Vinita to Catoosa, Salulpa to 1-35/2nd Street exit in Edmond and west Oklahoma City west of the junction of State Highway 66 and I-44 all the way to the east side of El Reno. |

Oklahoma's preservation of Route 66 has turned it into a
tourist attraction cutting a diagonal path through the state, passing through
small towns and big cities with a mix of art deco, modern and roadside
attraction architectural styles. Along Route 66 you can find unique old style
diners, antiques, eclectically cool old buildings and a lot of gift shops
selling all sorts of Route 66 souvenirs. If you've never gotten your kicks on Route 66, head to Oklahoma and take a nice long drive back in time. |
