SOUTH TEXAS PLAINS

Poteet, Texas is considered to be part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Area. San Antonio is about 25 miles to the north. Poteet is in Atascosa County. Poteet is about 10 miles west of Interstate 37.

Poteet was named for its first postmaster, Francis Marion Poteet. In James Michener's classic novel, Centennial, cattleman R. J. Poteet led the drive of a large herd of longhorns north from Texas to Colorado.

Directions to Poteet from points North, South, East and West.

From San Antonio Route #1:
Interstate 35 travel South. Turn to Left at Exit 148A "TX 16 - Poteet" . Go approximately 25 miles. Poteet Strawberry Festival main entrance on right.

From San Antonio Route #2:
Go South on Loop 410. Turn South at Exit 149 "Palo Alto Road/Poteet TX 16". Travel approximately 20 miles Poteet Strawberry Festival main entrance on right.

From Corpus Christi:
Interstate 37 North for 103 miles. Turn right on ramp "Exit 103 US-281N to Pleasanton". Veer to left & continue on US-281 for 4.6 miles. Turn left on TX-97, Oaklawn Drive. Continue to Jourdanton for 6 miles. Turn right (north to Poteet) on TX-16. Continue 9 miles to Amphion Road. Look for sign for "Poteet Strawberry Festival South Entrance". Turn left on Amphion Road Festival Parking on right after Amphion Road turns to left.

From Laredo:
Interstate 35 North 122 miles. Turn right in Devine at Exit 122 onto Hwy. 173. Go 20 miles turn left (north) on TX-16. Go 7 miles & arrive in Poteet. Turn left on Amphion Road. Look for sign for "Poteet Strawberry Festival South Entrance". Festival Parking is on right after Amphion Road turns to left.

From Houston:
Interstate 10 West for 187 miles. Exit on ramp at "Exit 581 Loop 410" and go southwest. Continue on Loop 410 about 15 miles. Take ramp at Exit 149 "Palo Alto Road/Poteet and TX 16". Turn left on TX-16 to Poteet for 20 miles. Poteet Strawberry Festival main entrance on right.

From Austin:
Interstate 35 South approximately 80 miles to San Antonio. Follow instructions above using either San Antonio Route #1 continuing on Interstate 35 to Exit 148A or San Antonio Route #2 turning at Exit 234C onto Loop 410 to Exit 149.

From Dallas:
Interstate 35E go southwest 55 miles. Continue on I-35 going south for 220 miles. Follow instructions above using either San Antonio Route #1 continuing on I-35 to Exit 148A or San Antonio Route #2 turning at Exit 234C onto Loop 410 to Exit 149.

From Fort Worth:
Interstate 35W go southeast 50 miles. Continue on I-35 going south for 220 miles. Follow instructions above using either San Antonio Route #1 continuing on I-35 to Exit 148A or San Antonio Route #2 turning at Exit 234C onto Loop 410 to Exit 149.
