OKLAHOMA CITY'S MYRIAD BOTANICAL GARDENS

On the south side of Oklahoma City's downtown there are a number of top notch attractions. Bricktown. The Convention Center. Myriad Botanical Garden. Bricktown is expanding. Another sports arena is under construction. But at the center of all this development this beautiful park-like botanical garden was quite a surprise. It is below street level. You walk onto the grounds and are surprised to see paved trails leading down to a lake. Trails, bridges and tunnels take you all over the gardens. The centerpiece of the gardens is a huge tube-shaped greenhouse in which a tropical jungle grows.

This is a good view of what you see when you walk through the entry to the gardens, not expecting a lake, or trails, or so much greenery.

A trail going under the Crystal Bridge.

The trail goes under the huge greenhouse. You can see the jungle inside, from the outside.

Tulips in the Botanical Garden.

A rare sight in Texas. Maybe less rare in Oklahoma. Tulips.

The Crystal Bridge in Myriad Botanical Gardens.

Now we are on the other side of the greenhouse.

Turtles in the Botanical Gardens.

It's not unusual to see turtles in any body of water in the southern regions. But there seemed to be an unusual number of them in the Botanical Gardens lake. The pair in this photo appeared to be a mom and baby turtle.

That concludes your walk through the Myriad Botanical Gardens

and Oklahoma
