Eve in Eden Texas---Pilot Point

EVE IN EDEN IN TEXAS -- PILOT POINT

In the little town of Pilot Point, in the Big State of Texas, a little mural is causing a Big Fuss. A depiction of Eve in the Garden of Eden being tempted with an Apple from God. At least that's what many believe this to be depicting. However, Eve appears to have a navel, which would seem to raise the possibility this may not be accurately Biblically inspired. Maybe it is just a picture of a guy with a big hand flicking an apple at a naked lady. The town is split into pro and con camps fighting over this mural and its supposed harm to children and those with delicate sensibilities. The art gallery owner responsible for the mural has been given a deadline from the Pilot Point police to cover Eve's bare breasts or face arrest under a Texas obscenity law. Others have used the term 'cretins' in local media to describe the Pilot Point police and mayor. Thanks to CNN and others, the Eve in Texas Scandal has now gone national to the amusement and amazement of the rest of the country.

Update: 2/5/05---On a return visit to Pilot Point we were surprised to see that Eve now has a companion. And that the area of Eve's wardrobe malfunction has been altered. But it is the companion who surprises. Mostly because not a peep of controversy has been heard about it. We are talking about a nude Statue of Liberty, laying on the American flag with a Miss Liberty USA banner across her chest. In Texas.

If one wasn't looking for this mural it would be easy to miss it. And if you did notice it one might not realize it could or would be controversial. Here we see the view as you drive down the street.

Now we are a bit closer. It does appear Eve is without clothes. And that does appear to be a red apple being flicked towards her by a giant finger.

Getting even closer to Eve it does appear that she does have a navel. It also appears she is not making any effort to catch this apple. So, if this mural is about the Garden of Eden, and Eve committing the Original Sin, it would seem some liberties have been taken with the version in Genesis. But that is not what concerns the Pilot Point Bluenoses. It's the NUDITY that is the vexing concern.

The work of art to the left is not in Pilot Point. Rather it is in a town about 50 miles southeast of Pilot Point called Dallas. This is a statue in front of the Women's Museum at Fair Park. This woman appears to be exhibiting almost as much NUDITY as Eve. However, it is not known if protests have been lodged about this particular work of art.

We hope you have not been too offended by these possibly tasteless displays of public NUDITY. Apparently there are many people in Pilot Point who are embarrassed by those who have made an issue of Eve and all the unflattering publicity it has brought the town. The Pilot Point mayor is currently in no comment mode to all inquiries....
