Some non-Texans
(who just don't know any better) have been heard to make the
erroneous statement that Texas has no scenery, that Texas is flat,
no mountains, all desert. That North Texas is a vast monotonous
wasteland of cattle farms and horses and people who like it that
way. Well. Texas has mountains, Texas has
canyons, Texas has wildflowers, Texas has ocean beaches, Texas has rivers, Texas has
lakes, Texas has a lot of eye-pleasing scenery. Why this remains a
mystery to much of the rest of the world is a mystery in itself. As
for North Texas, the photo below should provide some cognitive
dissonance to those who think North Texas is a vast monotonous
wasteland of cattle farms and horses. In this photo we see an artist
applying paint to canvas on a hot day in July at Rockledge Park on
Lake Grapevine in the heart of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex of
North Texas. During the course of painting the artist will have seen
dozens of mountain bikers race by on the Northshore Trail. Hikers.
Swimmers. Sail boats. And on this day a para-glider being pulled by
a boat. But no cows, no horses and no monotonous
wasteland in sight. However at the mountain bike trail called
Knob Hill at the west end of Lake Grapevine we had a very
interesting Mother's Day encounter with a Longhorn
Herd.
