TEXARCANA:
SOUVENIRS...ETCETERA

HOME    TEXAS REGIONS

Sometimes a visitor to Texas can be heard to remark that Texans seem to be a bit full of themselves. One doesn't notice this after living in Texas for awhile, until a visitor causes things to be seen through their eyes. What follows are some examples of Texas trifles available for sale in a major tourist zone, that being the Stockyards in Fort Worth.

A book to help the newcomer with the transition to becoming Texan. Well, to living in Texas, you can only be a Texan if you are born in Texas.

tex3.jpg (35852 bytes) A sentiment seen on bumper stickers, signs, books, postcards.
tex4.jpg (22936 bytes) Extolling the many virtues of living in Texas.
tex5.jpg (16497 bytes) A tasty candy treat.
tex6.jpg (34775 bytes) A parking sign, not really a Texas theme to this one, but it is a bit unwelcoming to northerners, also known as Yankees.
Can you imagine any other state in the union having a motto like 'Don't Mess with Texas'? And seeing that motto in the most unlikely of locations? It is not known if this motto pre-dates its use in the Texas anti-litter campaign.

tex7.jpg (43915 bytes) Four photos of bumper stickers, the first with an interesting variation on the 'Don't Mess with Texas' motto. The middle two with variations on the Confederate theme and the last another variation on a frequent theme.
