Jessie Slotemaker

Jessie is the second Dutch girl from the right, posing with a group of fellow volunteers who were working to help raise relief material for the Netherlands during WWII.

The dog in this photo was Jessie's favorite of the Slotemaker Farm Rat Terriers. The farm had problems with rats getting into the feed barn. The solution was to put Jessie's dog in the feed barn, shut the door to lock her in, and she would kill the rats. She was vicious going after the rats, but she was a very gentle dog around people. A highly efficient 'rat dog exterminator'.

From the left--- Eleanor, Jessie, Joan & Jean on the Slotemaker Farm, with the dog named Fanny and her puppies. It is not known why the rat dog was named after the niece's aunt Fanny.
