Although we have now shown
this photo to one of the people believed to be in this photo, and that person
has tentatively identified all but one of the people you see here, we can not
yet confirm the identities since our first hand witness is a bit unsure as
to some of identities, including her own. However, we
can confirm that the photo was taken in 1926, on the Slotemaker
Farm, and we are fairly certain that on the far right is Cornelius
Slotemaker. Sitting, at the far left is Joe Estie. And standing behind Joe
is his wife, Agnes
Slotemaker Estie. and next to Agnes is her future sister-in-law, Sylvia
Nieveen. To the left of Cornelius, sitting on the ground is Dick Slotemaker,
and standing behind Dick is Ann. It is
believed that the young looking guy next to Dick with his mug obscured by a
bottle, is Otto Slotemaker. The baby on the ground in front of Otto is Eleanor (Estie, born August 4, 1926).
This photo shows some of what Henry Slotemaker must have meant
about life in the 1920's as described in Part 6 of the
Slotemaker Story..."Recreation and social life for young people in
the 1920’s was not basically much different from the 1970’s when
this is written...."
Below is some of
the documentation which corroborates the above information relating to this
photo, in that the item shown below is the back side of the above photo. Some of
the info has been blacked out in some form of cover-up. However, the back of the
photo still identifies 3 of those in the photo; Agnes, Sib (Sylvia) and baby
Eleanor, and identifies the year as 1926. The lower right hand corner indicates
the processor of this photo as 'Kodak Dept., Smalley Drug Co.,
Bellingham'. We are attempting to learn who took this photo,
whatever other info was also blotted out and who it was who covered up the
information. Anyone who can help solve this mystery, please come
forward with the information, using any of the many information inputs on the
Slotemaker Website.
And below another photo of Baby Eleanor Estie
at her first party....
